Flooding in Stoke-on-Trent leaves drivers trapped.

Rainfall causes significant flooding across Stoke-on-Trent.

At approximately 14:45 on 31 October 2025, Stoke-on-Trent experienced sudden, torrential rainfall which caused widespread flooding. Several roads across the area became flooded and impassable. The A34 Newcastle Road, adjacent to the Royal Stoke University Hospital, was affected by roughly 2 feet of floodwater over a distance of around 100 yards; several vehicles became stuck in the water and their occupants were trapped. Our team deployed to the incident at approximately 15:15 and were the first on scene. We provided support for around 90 minutes before Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service attended; Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service subsequently assisted in rescuing the remaining trapped occupants and implemented emergency road closures. Once the area was secure, our team, working alongside crews from Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service, began to locate blocked drains and attempt to unblock them. We were later joined by the Highways Department from Stoke-on-Trent City Council, who used their vehicles and equipment to open and clear the drainage systems. Our team stood down from the incident at approximately 18:30. The road was fully cleared and reopened by 19:00.
